According to the UK Mental Health Foundation, young people were over three times more likely to experience loneliness in lockdown because of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Darcy explores how, despite this, Gen Z was not deterred. They were creative in generating an online sense of community, and kept fighting for many causes – like racial injustice – whilst still battling feelings of isolation. Darcy – Student at the University of Oxford, Vice Chair and Founding Member of the Black Heads Students’ Network and Head of People at Prospect 100 – urges her generation to go further still, and consider how they can be the change-makers of the future by shaping their communities, no matter how small. She elucidates this by touching on her personal journey. Her talk is also interspersed with her love of African proverbs. Darcy is heavily involved with two youth driven organisations; she is Vice Chair of Black Head Students’ Network and Head of People at Prospect 100, both of which aim to inform and encourage the next generation of young leaders. As well as being involved with these incredibly inspiring organisations, Darcy is currently studying Philosophy and Theology at University of Oxford and she is the Access and Outreach Representative for her college.
