Meet the Gallerists | Richard Gray Gallery
When David Hockney first showed at Richard Gray Gallery in 1983, he had been an internationally acclaimed painter for years. But Richard Gray and his son, Paul – now a partner at the gallery alongside Valerie Carberry – were particularly taken by the artist’s lens-based work and chose to focus on his then-new series of photo collages. This ‘aggressively enthusiastic’ support of Hockney’s most innovative side, to borrow Gray’s words, never stopped. In this new episode of Art Basel’s video series ‘Meet the Gallerists’, the partners revisit one of the gallery’s most enduring relationships.
